20 Apr Poetry Night “Stolpersteine”, with Mirjana Narandžić and Đorđe Simić

Stolpersteine (in English: “stumbling stones”) – A term used to describe the shiny bronze plaques commemorating the victims of the Nazi regime in more than 1,100 locations in 17 European countries.
As a term that deals with the past, the term Stolpersteine briefly introduces visitors to the contents of the guests’ poetry, raising questions about war, its consequences, as well as questions regarding individual belonging and identity.
The event will be enriched with the presence of two Serbian poets, Mirjana Narandžić and Đorđe Simić, while the moderator will be Agon Rexhepi.
Mirjana Narandžić was born in 1992 in Belgrade. She studied Serbian literature and language with comparative literature at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. Her texts are published in various anthologies and on various relevant portals in the country and region. In 2016, she was shortlisted for the “Mladi Dis” competition. The following year, in 2017, her manuscript “Nema veze” was published by Matica srpska as part of the edition “The First Book”. She also received the “Spasoje Pajo Blagojević” Award in 2018, which is awarded to the best young poet from all areas of the former Yugoslav republics. In 2019, the manuscript “Da se ne javim uvek” was published by the Center for Culture in Plužine in Montenegro. In 2021, the manuscript “Spoticanja” was published as part of the BIRN Open House conference.
Đorđe Simić (1989, Valjevo) has published two poetry books. His first book, The Tame Volcano, was published by Nova Poetika in 2020. It delves into the complexities of relationships, love, and loss. His second book, We Were The Good Guys, was published by Prometej, in 2022. This book explores themes such as sexual identity, family, and struggles of LGBTQ+ community. Simić’s poetry has been published in various magazines and poetry anthologies. His work has also been featured on literature and culture internet portals. Additionally, his poems have been translated into several languages, including English, Spanish, Dutch, and Macedonian. Aside from his writing, Simić has also worked in the theater industry. He was a part of the “Znakovi” drama studio where he worked on play scripts that were rewarded multiple times at the Festival of Theater Plays for Children and Youth of Belgrade. Simić is also the chief-editor of the Internet portal “bludni stih” which publishes regional contemporary poetry monthly in the format of an online anthology. This platform provides a space for emerging poets to showcase their work and connect with a wider audience.
