07 Jun Debate “Normalization of Ban or Ban of normalization: Hindering Cultural Exchange”
June 29 , 13:00, Prostor Miljenko Dereta (Dobračina 55)
More than a year has passed since the verbal endorsement of the Ohrid Agreement by Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, and Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, aimed at normalizing the relations between the two societies. In practicality, impediments and prohibitions still persist. Among these obstacles, there are notable restrictions and bans on the flow of cultural outputs between Serbia and Kosovo.
Alongside various economic and political constraints, there exist pervasive obstructions to the flow of cultural events, intellectual discourse, academic collaborations, and journalistic endeavors. Such restrictions hinder the free exchange of ideas, artistic expression, and cultural exploration between the two regions.
Economic hurdles, entry bans into Kosovo and Serbia, and challenges encountered by academic and cultural circles hinder diverse forms of cooperation crucial for fostering normalized relations between Kosovo and Serbia. By engaging in dialogue with those directly affected by these bans and actively striving against them, thereby fostering normalization within their respective spheres, we aim to delve into the repercussions of such bans on peace-building efforts.
Moreover, we seek to explore the positive impact of cultural exchanges, cooperation initiatives, and intercultural learning on fostering understanding and ameliorating relations between the two societies.
